Springing forward to ascend upward
As Ascend GW’s FY17 comes to a close, the passionate leadership team has spent much of the Spring season renewing and refining the organization’s goals to bring more value to its members, the community, and corporate partners. Part of that strategy is to align the programming and initiatives to both growing market needs and personal career goals which is a big reason we expanded our Corporate Sponsorship committee. Providing relevant resources for professionals at every level to develop their leadership skills and advance within their respective industries are at the center of the refined strategy. What kind of programs do YOU want? Let us know!
Corporate Sponsorship – Hemant Shah, Jeannette Chu, & Wendy Chan
To meet our growing needs, Ascend GW has expanded the Corporate Sponsorship committee to three dedicated senior leaders who work towards engaging prominent businesses and corporations to provide them the opportunity to support rising Pan-Asian leaders through the sponsorship of local events while gaining access to Ascend’s resources like the Corporate Executive Leadership Program.
It is through these partnerships that our members can learn about and build relationships with industry experts and executives, from start-ups to large corporations, in both the public and private sectors. In return for their gracious support, the committee actively maintains these relationships with our sponsors at Ascend events ensuring that they receive the benefit of publicity and exposure to the area’s talented pool of Pan-Asian leaders.
On March 31st, our Student Affairs VPs facilitated one of the first events spearheaded by students as a collaboration among all of the student chapters in the Greater Washington area and was an overwhelming success. The event brought professionals from various industries and nearly 200 undergraduate and graduate students from George Washing University, Johns Hopkins University, and University of Maryland. Special thanks to George Washington University for hosting.
Fannie Mae Diversity & Inclusion Technology Forum
Ascend GW was invited to participate in the Fannie Mae Diversity & Inclusion Technology Forum on April 26, 2017. Winson Heng, member of our Board of Directors, served as a panelist to discuss “Strategies to Shift to a Multicultural Organization”. The panel discussed various topics including importance of multiculturalism, ensuring an environment where people are comfortable bringing their whole selves to the workplace, and tools for managing the shift.
2017 Ascend Pinnacle Summit
During April 21-23, Ascend Pinnacle hosted its first-ever Asian Corporate Directors Summit at the Four Seasons in Palo Alto, CA. Over 80 experienced Asian corporate board directors and 25 senior executives joined the Summit. Ascend GW was represented by Rakesh Bhatia and Winson Heng.
